A failed bass player that invented a genre.

The 303 was sold as an automatic bass player for guitarists practising alone. It sounded nothing like a bass guitar and was hard to program, and it was discontinued within a few years.

Chicago producers bought the leftovers second-hand. They turned the cutoff and resonance knobs while a pattern ran and used the slide and accent steps heavily. The squelch that came out of that became acid house.
