ARP 2600

A modular you could learn on.

The 2600 is semi-modular: its modules are wired together behind the panel, so it makes a sound as soon as you switch it on. Patch cables let you override that wiring when you're ready. Printed graphics show where the signal flows, which made it as useful in classrooms as in studios.

It came with a spring reverb and a pair of small speakers. Its sounds turn up in 1970s film scores and funk records, and in a lot of sound design that went on to define what 'electronic' meant to many people.
