Space Echo RE-201

A loop of tape that remembers, then forgets.

Inside is a loop of magnetic tape that passes one record head and three playback heads. Each repeat comes back slightly darker, slightly wobblier and slightly more saturated than the one before. The tape wears, the motor drifts, and that imperfection is the reason people use it.

Turn up the intensity and the echoes feed back into themselves until they bloom into a self-oscillating roar. Dub engineers played it like an instrument.
